Bukit Lawang is a tourist village located in Bahorok District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. The village is situated on the edge of Gunung Leuser National Park (TNGL), one of the largest and most biodiverse conservation areas in Southeast Asia. The name “Lawang” itself means “door” or “gate,” thus Bukit Lawang is often referred to as the gateway to the Leuser rainforest.
Mount Sibayak is an active stratovolcano located near Berastagi in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Rising to about 2,212 meters above sea level, The mountain is famous for its steaming fumaroles, sulfur deposits, and breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding highlands. Hiking to the summit is relatively easy compared to other volcanoes.

4D3N Bukit Lawang – Mt. Sibayak Private Travel Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival & Medan City Tour ( X / LUNCH / DINNER )
- 08:00 AM – Arrival at Kualanamu International Airport. Meet and greet with the Tobaleuser Team, then transfer to Medan.
- 09:15 AM – Begin your city tour:
- Maimoon Palace – iconic royal palace of the Deli Sultanate.
- Tjong A Fie Mansion – heritage home of a Chinese merchant with rich history.
- Annai Velangkani Church – striking Indo-Mogul style Catholic church.
- 12:00 PM – Lunch at a local restaurant.
- 14:00 PM – Drive to Bukit Lawang (approx. 3 hours), gateway to Gunung Leuser National Park.
- 17:30 PM – Hotel check-in. Free time to relax and soak in the lush rainforest and riverside scenery.
- 19:00 PM – Dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2 – Jungle Trek & River Adventure ( BREAKFAST / LUNCH / DINNER )
- 07:00 AM – Breakfast at the hotel
- 08:00 AM – Trek into Gunung Leuser National Park, a UNESCO-listed rainforest and sanctuary for the endangered Sumatran orangutan
- 11:30 PM – Enjoy thrilling tubing across the Bukit Lawang river, then return to the hotel for rest
- 12:00 PM – Lunch at the hotel, followed by check-out.
- 14:00 PM – Depart for Berastagi (approximately 3–4 hours drive).
- 17:00 PM – Visit Berastagi Fruit Market, where you can shop for local souvenirs.
- 18:00 PM – Check in at the hotel.
- 19:00 PM – Dinner at the hotel or a local restaurant, with time to relax after the day’s adventures
Day 3 – Mount Sibayak Sunrise Trek ( BREAKFAST / LUNCH / DINNER )
- 03:30 AM – Depart for the Sibayak trekking starting point. Begin the hike to the summit of Mount Sibayak (approximately 1.5–2 hours). Witness the breathtaking sunrise over the surrounding highlands. Explore the crater area, where you can see steaming fumaroles and, depending on conditions, a small crater lake.
- 08:30 AM – Descend back to the starting point. Continue to the hot springs at the foot of Mount Sibayak for a relaxing soak, followed by breakfast.
- 10:30 PM – Return to the hotel for rest and leisure time.
- 12:30 PM – Lunch at a local restaurant.
- 14:00 PM – Visit Lumbini Natural Park , home to a magnificent replica of the Shwedagon Pagoda, one of Myanmar’s most iconic Buddhist landmarks.
- 15:00 PM – Afterward, continue the journey to. For those who are able, you may descend the Sipiso-piso Waterfall 1,200 steps leading down to the base of the waterfall, where you can enjoy its majestic view up close.
- 18:00 PM – Return to the hotel for rest and enjoy dinner at the hotel or a local restaurant.
Day 4 – Return to Medan ( BREAKFAST / X / X )
- 07:30 AM – Breakfast at the hotel before checking out.
- 08:30 AM – Depart from Berastagi (or your overnight location) for the drive back to Medan (approx. 2.5–3 hours).
- 12:00 PM – Arrive in Medan; free time for shopping local souvenirs and enjoying Medan’s culinary delights.
- 14:00 PM – Transfer to Kualanamu International Airport (KNO) for your onward flight, or to your selected hotel in Medan.

🕓 Important Note
It is recommended to choose a flight schedule in the afternoon or evening, so that the entire series of activities on the last day can be enjoyed comfortably without feeling rushed. This also provides sufficient time for shopping souvenirs, savoring Medan’s local cuisine, and making the journey to the airport, which takes approximately 1–1.5 hours from the city center depending on traffic conditions.
